31 Fright Flicks Of Halloween – Week 3

October 16th – Near Dark (1987)

“What the fuck is goin’ on?” ” It ain’t what’s goin’ on son. It’s what’s comin’ off. Your face. Clean off!” Kathryn Bigelow won an oscar for the Hurt Locker but not an oscar for Near Dark!?!?  Every man’s dream comes true (well at least my dream) in this movie when a hot lady-vampire seduces a farmboy and turns him into the walking undead.  Word on the street they are re-making this movie, hopefully they’ll put Justin Timberlake in it, and Fergie, maybe even Justin Bieber, Terry Bradshaw and throw in the lead singer of Maroon 5.  Yeah dude, yeah, oh.

October 17th – Kill Baby, Kill (1966)

Witch doctors, ghosts, crazy small town mobs, mysterious and shady characters galore, so what more can you want for the month of October?  I love the title of this film!  Originally released as Operation Fear, and re-released as Curse of the Living Dead. Kill Baby, Kill was the original US theatrical release.  The title suggests more of a slasher feel instead of ghost story vibe. It truly isn’t for everyone, but I love the sets and the David Lynch style of creepiness.  Break out the Absinthe and take a shot every time someone kills themselves, actually take two.

October 18th – Dead & Buried (1981)

Let’s stay in the small crazy-ass town mood.  In short; visitors passing through the town of Potter’s Bluff are murdered, but the next day they turn up as townspeople, scaaaarrry.  This has one of my favorite opening scenes.  Photographer-dude is working his magic behind the lens on the beaches with a gorgeous towns-girl.   Sparks flare and she begins to let the panties fly.  Soon they are both in the sand “making-it.”  I really don’t want to spoil what happens, does she have a wiener? Is she a robot? Does the love making involve a hermit crab shell?  Gotta watch this one!

October 19th – The Video Dead (1988)

This movie is right up there with the classics like The Newly Deads and Forever Evil.  In the Newly Deads a zombie jaywalks like a pimp with a broken leg. In Forever Evil a zombie tries to growl but either they didn’t have the money to cut the scene in time or the director was cool with the zombie barking once then pausing for a few seconds then barking again very quickly.  If you have the time to check those two films out, don’t!  Or, how they are sometimes hard to get through, they are also hilarious!

The Video Dead has some crazy-ass acting with very well written dialogue, hmm.  But this is one of those that I love watching.  A mysterious television set shows up at this dudes house, however it only plays one channel, the channel of the dead!  (You were suppose to say that last sentence with a mid-evil accent.)

October 20th – Return of the Living Dead (1985)

Now for a real zombie flick (not that Newly Deads, Forever Evil or Video Dead ain’t one.)  Return of the Living Dead has some of the scariest images and zombies in it ever.  That naked dead man running around the basement knocking shit over scared the crap out of me for years plus one of my favorite actors of all time is in it and pretty much reprises the exact role of his character “Demon” from Friday the 13th.  Yes! I’m talkin’ bout Miguel A. Nunez Junior.  Most of you may recognize Miguel from Leprechaun 4 “Leprechaun In Space,” or maybe Slam Dunk Ernest, or maybe even “Slick” from the hit television show Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and although he goes by “Spider” in Return of the Living Dead, to me he’ll always be Reggie the Reckless’ big brother Demon, ‘Cause you’re one spooky motherfucker, man!

October 21st – Monster Squad (1987)

Rock. Until. You. Mutha-Grabbin’-Drop.  I saw this in like 1988 as a double feature with License to Drive, talk about best day ever, Mercedes Lane and Groundhog’s Day part 12! I still watch this film and wish I was Rudy, I actually just wish I was Rudy. Also heard they were re-making this one as well, hopefully they’ll put Justin Timberlake in it, and Fergie, maybe even Justin Bieber, Terry Bradshaw and throw in the lead singer of Maroon 5.  Yeah dude, yeah, oh.

 October 22nd – Fright Night (1985)

“AMY!!!”  It’s been a vampire, zombie kinda week!  So order some Pizza-Hut bust open a 2 liter coke and pop-in Fright Night, one of the best of the bests!

Evil Ed is one of the coolest characters ever and is played by someone who had something really going; Stephen Geoffreys.  He was in so many totally rad movies like, Heaven Help Us, 976-EVIL, Fright Night.  Suddenly he switched to porn-porn and starred in titles like Hunk Hotel, Leather After Midnight, Buff and Gay and my friend Matt’s favorite Seaman Training Day.  He is getting back into horror…gay horror, with a movie called Bite Marks, lookout for that one to hit theaters around never O’ clock.

Also re-making Fright Night…and hopefully they’ll put Justin Timberlake in it, and Fergie, maybe even Justin Bieber, Terry Bradshaw and throw in the lead singer of Maroon 5.  Yeah dude, yeah, oh.
