A Week In Memphis With Bosco Delrey

3 Six Mafia — Ni**az Ain't Barrin Dat

I got a phone call last month from Bosco Delrey to come hang out in Memphis for a week and contribute a lil bit while he worked on his album for Mad Decent.  I of course, said yes and jumped on the next flight to the land of Elvis, Isaac Hayes and 666 Mafia. Upon arriving it was amazing to see the amount of love the city of Memphis has for Bosco. The first day there we were driving with the windows rolled down and a lady yelled from the curb, "Bosco Delrey! Get to the studio and some make more beautiful music."  So we did and wow the secret studio was mindblowing!!!!

They had everything there, a very old B3 organ,  the timpanis that were used on all the Stax records, a mellotron, tape reels and the maddest racks of gear, i've ever seen.

We grabbed the sessions for the day before where he brought in string players and a drummer to record live tracks for the album. We took them to Bosco's home studio and worked for the day adding them in and replacing some sounds and installing some new synth he didnt have on his computer from before.

So after a hard days work we went for some drinks.  The bars in Memphis are weird, the first place we went to used to be Elvis's old dojo, they even had a mural outside with him karate chopping a pizza while hanging out with big bird's gf and some other dudes.

Later on the trip i tried the pizza there during the Neil Hamburger show and it was glorious, best bar pizza ever.

So we watched a few bands and then hung out in the back and talked with bosco's friends about the cellphone witch of memphis that steals cellphones and gives them back and other odd memphis stuff.  The bands were great but i was really hoping that the Linda Heck Experiement was that night :(

Memphis is a really rad spot but its sorta hell if you need to use the internet, there's virtually no wifi to jack signals from and the only internet cafes close at 6pm.  So while I was visiting we'd wake up early and hit up the local spot where i'd  see 10 people from the night before drinking at the bars.  The food was great, the net worked well and they had up all this kid art on the walls, they were so sick, i took a bunch but the only one that came out was the one with predator (which i felt was the best one).

So there you go a lil teaser of my time in Memphis with Bosco, i got post 2 coming right up with a ton of videos and stories of magical castles and dead frogs... Also stay tuned to nab Bosco's first release "Wild One  / Evil Lives" that drops on Mad Decent this Tuesday. Grab it on itunes and ttlab.                          ****studio photos courtesy of Bunny
