Azonto Rise

Mad Decent continues its weekly series searching for some of the hottest genres/releases from all over the world.

This destination is Ghana, in where Azonto is perhaps one of the hottest addition to the Global Bass scene!

A style of music based on a Dance movement!

The dance was first called “Apaa” (which means work) by the people of Bukom, Swalaba and its environs. This was to represent movements activities like ironing, washing, driving, boxing etc. that were associated with the dance.

As usual, Teenagers shifted something that was around, into a whole movement when they dropped their perception, breaking the parameters of what people thought should be a dance style!

Mc El and producer Sarkodie seemed to be the ones who gave new life to the style, which became VIRAL at high schools!!

With lightspeed ferocity, labels jumped in, spreading azonto towards various directions..
A Mainstream style, with whole full gear in terms of video, production and PR! (forget the cheesy Fuse ODG tune)

A medium Range

And our beloved under scene, in where things are kept really fresh!!!

Our mate ELO drops two free ones!

and this tune we had the pleasure to premiere here as well
