In America there is a holiday called “Independence Day” which is celebrated on the 4th of July. Its a holiday that acknowledges the Declaration of Independence which was written in opposition to Great Britain. All this went down in the 18th Century when Britain was still a Kingdom and Mad Decent was a simple trading post for fishing bait and grain.
A little over 200 years later in the Americas, the freedom from colonialism is celebrated as a Federal holiday with hot dogs, bikini’s, brews, etc. So while everyone is grilling in honor of Thomas Jefferson & John Adams we’ve decided that there would be no better way to acknowledge our great American holiday than by sharing a gift from the Dutch.
