Memorial Day Weekend in NYC

Man, just got back home to Philly from NYC for a long Memorial day weekend, shit was goodtimes dot com! Diplo, myself and our label manager Jasper drove up Thursday afternoon to get Diplo in the studio with our girl Amanda Blank so they could finalize some tracks for her album thats dropping soon on Downtown Records.

(don’t miss Ladies day at the gas station in Jersey, I hear it’s cougar city…)

When we got in Amanda played us some of the joints coming out on the album and as you could imagine they are BANANAS. Anyways they were recording in legendary Chung King studios home of so many platinum and gold records it’ll make your head spin! (just check out the client list on their site to get an idea of who’s been through their doors). This was my third trip to the studio and as always I carried on my tradition of eating multiple bags of
pretzel-combos from the vending machine and making myself way too comfortable during someone else’s precious studio time…

(expensive compressors I have no idea how to use)

After hanging in the studio for a couple of hours we all left to go check out RyeRye who was performing at some random club in the city. When we got in it was crazzzzy packed and I swore I heard DJ SEGA’s lollipop remix being played which really weirded me out because I knew he was keeping it exclusive to bang over peoples heads during his set’s. Well wouldn’t you know it, as I made my way to the DJ booth it was none other then SEGA unannounced, just straight MURDERING the decks (as always) after all. We left when SEG finished, and I stopped by some goth party in Brooklyn (weird) before calling it a night.

Saturday I took time to visit with some of my favorite NY peoples and proceeded to drink all day and night (can you believe I’d never had a carbomb before!?!? well I had a fewwwwww that night… Whoa). By Sunday I made my way back to Chung King to visit diplo and finish some work stuff for him. Pase Rock came straight from the airport looking all rockstar-disheveled in a fedora and sneakers… Homeboy does his thing, I think he’s performing in China next week?!?! craze.

Messy live room

(saw this latin mama killing the Selena lookalike game, I’m talking

riveted red outfit, frilly white shirt, hot lip-liner and all that) That night we went and checked out on of my favorite house duo’s Metro Area at Love, Which is now officially my favorite nightclub in NYC since I’ve discovered their “adult fuzzy treehouse” room thats hidden behind a waterfall!!! Beyond that it’s big, dark and has an impressive
soundsystem

Sunday night was just as crazy as ever, after stopping by Gay BBQ we checked out my girl Lauren Flax who was spinning at this crazy party outdoors at some sort of truck lot in Brooklyn, she DJ’d from a flatbed truck…? anyways after she tore the place down we made our way over to Williamsburg to go catch up with my dudes Caps and Jones who were playing a secret show and killing the club with one of the sweatiest dancefloors I saw all weekend… Fun as it all was, I was ready to be back in Philly today. So after a quick shopping stop off (A.P.C for the win!) we headed home… Now were here back here at the studio, Diplodocus is napping on the couch and after Spankrock’s Birthday party tonight (crap we’re late!) we can finally get back to some normal non alcohol fueled Philly life… Well, for a day or two that is… See you all in Baltimore on Friday!

(Now I know some of you don’t like these long rundown posts, so here’s two tracks I’ve been jamming lately from Headhunter to help you cry babies get over it

Headhunter — Descent

Headhunter — Drop The Waste
