Yoooo, so i'm back from a little Creature feature hiatus, but i got a ton of weird animals in the hopper, first up this dood, the mantis shrimp! Strangely, Mantis Shrimp are neither Mantis nor Shrimp and are really gangster. You can divide the species into two group Spearers: who spear their prey to kill them and Smashers: who punch their prey with the force of a shotgun blast over and over again till death.
Along with being tough and relentless killers, they also have the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom that can perceive both polarized light, and hyperspectral colour vision. With the ability to see from Ultra-Violet to Infra-red, there's pretty much nothing that they can't see.
Some can even see circular polarized light, which means it can see FM radio signals or something like that. Their eyes are actually so advanced that they are actual helping developers create more advanced optic technology than the current blu-ray stuff.
Mantis Scrimp are very solitary creatures that only leave their burrows to kill or to hook up with their girlfriends , whats really cool is that they are known to be monogamous, in some cases for up to 20 years with one partner.
So thats the run down on these things, they are like Aquatic Kabuki Aliens and i hope to never see one if i'm swimming in Indo Pacific waters.
