Shake It To The Ground (Switch & Santogold Remix)
With Baltimore club’s influence seeping from the Eastern seaboard to basically everywhere else on earth, it might seem strange that the new 12″ from DJ Blaqstarr – Bmore’s most talented and quickest rising producer – isn’t loaded with his trademark regional sound. (If you heard the Supastarr EP, it might make more sense – Blaqstarr’s tracks are way darker and more intense than your average gimmick club track.)
Early on, Diplo heard remix potential in “Shake It To The Ground,” a track off the EP with 16(?) year old Baltimore rapper Rye Rye on vocals. From there, he basically got the Justice League of Remixers to have their way with the track: London’s Switch, San Francisco’s Claude VonStroke and NYC’s Drop The Lime.
“I just assembled the illest people in the USA right now,” says Diplo. “Except Switch isn’t in the USA. But I’d say he’s so sick that we can make an exception for him to join.” “All these dudes – Bmore, NY, SF, LDN – are coming from different scenes, but it’s all the same now in the USA,” explained Diplo, who’ll be giving his own remix of “Shake It” away for free on MadDecent.com when the album drops. “Raiding influences and jackin’ up clubs… it’s new bassment club music.
The single will feature the original Blaqstar-produced mix, plus unreleased remixes from Switch & Santogold, Claude VonStroke and Drop The Lime. Available on vinyl exclusively from Mad Decent.
Originally released on Aug 21, 2007.
